How Technology Is Actually A Human Play

When we go into the technology sector, people tend to think that we are just working on technology, computers, or code. But technology, at the end of the day, involves human connection, because humans invented it. It’s important for tech leaders to understand that they are working with wonderful souls and people working together creating that technology that is going to help your business thrive.

Organizational Alignment

In David’s years of experience in technology, he saw that 90% of the time, the root issue of a tech department is actually a cultural problem. Alignment is “a state of agreement or cooperation among persons or groups with a common cause or viewpoint.” When your organization nails it, all employees—from entry-level to your leadership team—share and act on your vision.

You Have To Grow Your Leadership Skills

The key to becoming a good CIO/CTO is to grow your leadership skills. You have to realize that your human skills are ten times more important than your technical skills. It’s time to look at how the brain and the heart works, how emotion works and how it affects the everyday work we do.

Leadership skills can play a large role in a person's career development. Technical skills and a college degree may only take you so far. To be an effective leader and help move your career forward, you'll also need soft skills, such as the ability to be a good listener and communicator. There are several core leadership skills that are considered important traits to help you become a more effective leader.

Yes, it’s important to learn the trend and be up to date about technology, but if you want to have a department that helps your organization grow, if you want to have a business that appreciates you as a Tech Leader and your people, you better start learning about culture, human emotions, how habits can form in your team, and how to create a collaborative team.

Leadership is about learning to create your employees environment to thrive. So focus on your people first, and then you and your business will thrive.
